The FW10 collection for Robert Geller hit on some familiar themes from seasons past. The look of romantic eastern-european dandyism is definitely here but this season seems to be focused on more lux textiles ranging from fur to distressed leather. The leather pieces and accessories were definitely stand-outs however I’m not sure if the fur styling translated well. The color palette had pop colors of purple and blue once again and it seems that it would be easy to wear this seasons stuff with older pieces. All in all a step forward for the brand although I am still waiting to see the fabrics closer up.

I was fortunate enough to be at the Milk studios for the Tim Hamilton presentation at Milk Studios last friday. The line seems to have taken a more street oriented direction which i feel is positive considering menswear designers’ inclination to dress things “up”. The fit of the trousers looked quite on point as well as the black riders jacket. In my opinion the price point for the line has always been a bit high but time will tell if things are slightly more affordable this season in response to market changes. Theres always more room in a mans wardrobe for those simple easy to throw on classics and without doubt many men will find some of those in this fall/winter season.

Backpacks are a key accessories for men giving their inherent blend of form and function here are a couple of our pics for the upcoming season

Julius Leather Backpack
This is a simple and wearable design for the SS10 season from Julius. The leather and zipper detailing isn’t overdone and the silhouette is still unique enough to stand out.

Givenchy Studded Backpack
This backpack takes on a simple familar shilouette and adds soft leather mixed in with studded detailing. A street ready simple piece that will work with a variety of styles. It’s nice to see some nice menswear accessories trickling into the Givenchy product pipeline.

I’ve always loved Barney’s free catalogs and how they styled and displayed the new designer clothes of the season. This video takes it a step further and adds video and an element of street skating. It doesn’t sound like it’ll work but it does. Some of the brands featured include Number (N)ine and Yohji Yamamoto.

Many say that Augusta is just another brand trying to work its way into this niche market, but they have come along way and into their own as a great contender in the accessories market. These oiled cordovan lace boots certainly show the detail that Simone has put into his work.  The  purple hue and versatile cordovan leather make this a perfect boot for the gloomy winter nights

One of my personal favourite jackets of the season is the Label Under Construction Scarf Collard Jacket.
LUC’s Scarf Collared Jacket is comprised of 100 percent Shetland Wool (Sheep) and comes in a light and charcoal grey. The exaggerated collar can be worn 3-4 different ways, whilst still protecting your neck from the cold chills at night.

As one of the standout menswear designers from the New York Fashion Week; Robert Geller comes back with a pretty strong Spring/Summer 2010 Collection. The materials shown seem lighter, more sporty and versatile. The colors are a good fit for the season without being as gimmicky as past seasons. While there’s not any particular pieces that stand out as must-haves the collection has a better feel and coherency than the last Spring/Summer offering. The plus side to the more sportswear inspired looks is that this collection will fit better into most men’s existing wardrobes.
