Fall/Winter 09 Boots – Ann Demeulemeester

Every season Ann Demeulemeester puts out some of the best footwear, but it always never gets talked about. Most of her shoes are very under-rated, but those who discover these hidden gems will not be disappointed.

Here, we have a beautiful leather black laceup boot with very minor detailing. The fastening buckle placed on the ankle helps create a great silhouette –An opportunity for cropped trousers

DRKSHDW x Eastpak @ Oki-Ni

A few days ago we put up some detailed images of the DRKSHDW Eastpak collaboration. Now the entire collection is available on the webstore Oki-Ni. Oki-Ni describes the collection as follows

“… pieces have been produced without traditional sewn stitching and use a revolutionary welding technique that gives a distinct streamlined look. All items have been dry stone washed to give a naturally worn-in texture and each item in the line is accessorised with a DRKSHDW lanyard and coin purse. “

The messenger bags and backpacks are the standouts from the collection. Although a laptop sleeve and wrist band are also available.

Take a look at the entire range HERE

Rick Owen’s DRKSHDW SS10 Preview

A couple preview looks from DRKSHDW Spring/Summer 2010. DRKSHDW continues to follow it’s tradition of taking tough materials like denim and distressing them in a way that differentiates them from the mainline. For a diffusion line DRKSHDW has always had the potential to stand out from the mainline while still augmenting other Rick pieces. I think DRKSHDW is really coming into it’s own and if this preview is any indication more good things are sure to come.

Givenchy SS10 Video – Paris

The Spring/Summer 2010 Givenchy Collection for men seems like a regression from the stronger FW09 collection. While the same feel is here, the styling and pieces can often be described as gaudy. Instead of smoothy blending a street element ; designer Riccardo Tisci tries too hard to ensure every piece has the depth and detailing of his women’s line. I think his attempt to infuse a strong warrior element to the clothes actually backfired and instead made the collection feel more vulnerable and delicate. He makes too much of an effort to make clothes that deserve staring at. While there are some successes here (some of the suiting and the gold-adorned looks), overall I have to say this collection was a slight disappointment. Apparently Tisci was working with Micheal Jackson for some of his London engagements, unfortunately we never got to see the costumes on stage, and some of the ideas presented here should have stayed on the drawing board.
