A good fashion editorial can open one’s eyes to new places, new styles and create a world that viewers can temporarily visit. This is one of my favorites in recent memory. The shoot features some terrific arhive raf items (like the magna cum laude ma-1 black bomber) and several Givenchy Items. We are a little late on these images but we’d like to thank Coute Que Coute for the scans.

Viridi-Anne FW09 Looks

Japanese brand Viridi-Anne is back with some nice layered looks for Fall/Winter 2009. At first glance this the presentation of this collection is noticeably less sombre than previous seasons. There’s a good mix of layering techniques shown here and the down pieces look terrific as they had a sportswear element to the aesthetic. The coats are a mix of materials but most of the warmer outwear has are cut to be long and allow for mutiple layers underneath. The leather gloves here also look terrific and add a little pop to each look shown. We’ll bring you more coverage when the new VA hits stores.

Over the course of the last 8 months, pictures were slowly being released on the internet. They were never very clear, but Why Lip has finally released clear showroom pictures to the public. The collaboration includes a document/laptop case, duffle bag, messenger bag, small backpack and a wrist band.

Jun Takahashi’s Undercover Aoyama Store Preview

Some preview shots of the new Undercover Aoyama Flagship store opening on July 18th at 11AM. It’s nice to see a retail concept different from the typical white walled minimalism.

Juun J SS10 “Overlap” Paris

Juun J’s Spring/Summer 2010 collection is a mixed bag. While there are certainly some very dramatic impressive pieces like the jumpsuit trench, shiny techno shorts and oversize anorak there are some definite misses as well. The sandal-sneaks are a good attempt at something new but I can hardly seeing them being very appealing in person. The collection has some nice basics but it still comes across as a raf redux and there are some pieces that seem to come out of nowhere (the oversized crewneck pincho for example). If this was another designer perhaps this entire collection would’ve gotten a pass but seeing that his past work showed so much progress SS10 seems like a slight regression. Heres hoping Fall/Winter will be more impressive.

Ann Demeulemeester S/S 10 Paris

This collection is something that differs from the traditional Ann D formula. The obvious missing element being the total lack of shirting (one of her specialties), but beyond that this collection’s feel is less romantic and more modern than her recent work. I can’t help but feel the collection is a little bit flat and doesn’t have the depth of F/W 2009 which was particularly strong in my mind. Change can be good but with this collection it just seems unnecessary and forced, I don’t think Ann’s consumers go to her for patent shoes, tan blazers or leather headbands. That being said there are a few nice trousers here (even surprisingly wearable leather pants) but it just doesn’t live up to her own high standard.
