SS10 Previews : Rick, Odyn, Juun and BLAAK
I spotted this feature surprisingly on the men.style.com website. With the current economic downturn I think it makes sense for mainstream media outlets to cover more interesting young designers rather than stick to the status quo. Here are some quotes from the designers had to say about their lines accompanied by previews of product coming in the S/S10 season.
Rick Owens

“Is it feasible to wear Rick Owens all day, every day? In my world, it is. I always resented the idea of statement clothes on the runway and then when you got to the store, it was regular stuff.
Julius

Tatsuro Horikawa : “Clothes are a means of survival in the world and are designed to function as a tool—not as an article to be worn at extravagant parties.”
Juun J, Odyn Vovk and BLAAK after the jump
Juun J

“I don’t want to design things that are very safe. But I always have a balance between commercial and design’s cutting edge. Since I’ve had experience with other brands and designers, I’ve learned how to balance.”
BLAAK

“Personally, I felt that dressing was more conservative before [the downturn]. It was all about the City, the bank—the more generic look. I think maybe that’s over, and maybe creativity will be more pushed.
Odyn Vovk

Austin Sherbanenko : “I’ve heard that people are toning their stuff down, going not as detailed, less intricate, less zippers, whatever the case is. But definitely not from me. Dude, whatever, let’s just do it anyway. Fuck it. Who cares?”
